Plano convex cylindrical lens
A plano-convex cylindrical lens is used to condense light in one axis. A positive plano cylindrical lens is able to create a line image from a point of light, to change the aspect ratio of an image or to focus collimated input light to a line. Plano- convex cylindrical lenses are typically used for illumination of slit and line detector arrays, laser projection, laser line focussing and anamorphic beam shaping.
A cylindrical lens is a lens with different radii on the X and Y axes, so the lens is cylindrical or semi-cylindrical in shape and has image magnification on only one optical axis. Cylindrical lenses are used to correct astigmatism in the eye and for rangefinders, which produce astigmatism and stretch a point of light into a line. Ideal for demanding laser processing and medical applications, cylindrical lenses are also widely used to collect and focus light for many imaging applications.
